Can't you hear her silent screaming

Her words are carefully casual
Her easy gestures a calculated disguise
As she laughs and seems so light-hearted
There is turmoil in her eyes

Her seeming confidence draws you in
Her exuberant exterior makes you believe
Glossing over all her fatal cracks
The lie of happiness she has weaved

Everyone can do what they want, she thinks
As long as they are sincere
I'm a good person- so I'm okay
My eternity is nothing to fear

But her happiness is a shallow farce
Her peace, a terrible sham
For she is subtly, desperately calling out-
"I don't know who I am..."

She has tried to earn her worth
When such a thing cannot be done
Her only redemption can come about
From surrendering to God's son.

Each day she runs from His presence
"I can do it alone," she believes
But each failure only brings her more despair
She doesn't understand why she grieves

I am doing all I can to be happy
Though all my decisons are not so wise
I'm living the American dream-
So why am I this person I despise?

She struggles so hard to find herself
Going down roads many before her have trod
And in her search for self-worth and love
She only drifts further from God

You see her pass you every day
You see through her careful lie
You know what it is she truly looks for-
So how can you just walk by?

Don't you see her need for the truth?
Don't you see the hunger in her eyes gleaming?
Can't you see she is drowning with no Savior-
Can't you hear her silent screaming?

Author notes

This is about what I was and how people treated me during a certain period in my life, btu also about friends of mine and also hypocritical Christians who say they care but walk by when someone is struggling.

Please tell me what you think
