Divinity's Punishment

I've heard it stated many
Times and over again
That life is something
Precious, a gift if you will,
While no one ever thinks of
All the ways it is more
Of our punishment.

You see, while there are
Many "pure" souls that
Are riddled with cancer,
There are still many
You would consider
To be evil living past
The average life span.

Or have you ever
Thought of how
Children are dying
Of thirst and hunger,
While we simply
Selfishly gorge ourselves
With tasty treats that
Are merely killing us
From the inside out.

How about the fact that
While we still lust after
More and more no matter
How much we have,
We are pushing and
Shoving to fulfill our greed.

Yes, for many of this world,
Being alive is quite a heaven,
But perhaps those are the
Demons of this Hell rubbing
Their luxuries in the
Faces of those that
Are still suffering
Throughout this vast land.
Perhaps this really is a
State of torture for
Those that have sinned-
Gazing upon a heaven
That is just out of reach,
Only ever being able to
Observe such happiness.

Perhaps those of us
That have access
To such luxuries
Are the greedy demons
That are here to tempt
And torture the ones
Truly condemned for
Their earthly sins.

Or perhaps this is
Even a divine way
Of our Creator's
To torment and punish
All of mankind.

Perhaps this is
Really our Hell.
