Samhain Ritual - A Halloween Poem

Missing image
The corners are set, the candles lit,
the ritual begins, to the dead we submit.
Close the circle, invoke the dead,
eat of the apple, the color is red.
Flesh of the body, feeding the mind,
ethereal spirits, this ritual find.
Bless us with your bounty as summer doth close,
a coldness sets in, bring us your ghosts.
Speak of the future, tell of the past,
leave us with wisdom, let it last.
Lighting a candle, each invokes their honored dead,
blindfolds come off, and put around their head.
Our veils secured, we dance with our chosen,
drumming, humming, dead are unfrozen.

(recited)

"On the shores of the dead do we dance with thee,
nothing but bones do we bring to ye.
Sinew and flesh is charred and become ash,
bless the future, may this come to pass.
Our eyes gone hollow, reflecting the starry night,
the dead we become, tis no reason for fright.
We beseech thee our dead to watch o'er us,
as flesh falls from our bones and we become dust."

A plate for the dead is heaped and served,
as we tell of our bounty and it's worth.
When food and libation are finished,
time to invoke more power.

Invoke the Deities of Death, Transformation, and Rebirth:

Tokens placed on the altar for the coming new year,
to charge them with dead's power is why we are here.
We speak of the past year ending on a good note,
chanting a chant we all know from rote.

We are an old people,
We are a new people,
We are the same people,
Stronger than before.

Cauldron of Changes,
Blossom of Bone,
Arc of Eternity,
Hole in the Stone.

Old Year out,
New Year in,
Let the Witches'
Year begin!

We feed each other apple with honey so sweet,
starting this new year the ritual complete.

Author notes

I had to research this to know what a Samhain Ritual is. Interesting to say the least. I am not Wiccan at all but I respect others beliefs.

Love you Tory.

Based on the subject and content, I think you did well. Especially not having any knowledge of Samhain rituals. Other the other hand, I have to be honest about the difficulty I had making it to the end of this piece. It was kind of slow going for me. Hard for me to keep my focus on the piece. I still like it, at the end I was not disappointed. I think it just had a very forced feel to it. Well done for the little knowledge of the subject.

This is wonderfully written. For not being wiccan you did a well job here. My favorite part is: Old Year out,
New Year in, Let the Witches' Year begin!" Although I liked the entire piece. I am really surprised as you hit everything about my religious holiday that you are not one of us. I bet you would do good if you we're to become one of us. Good luck in the contest my friend. In Love & Light... Blessed Be! ~~Iridessa MoonFlower~~
