a path of your own

ever thought to wonder,
if you walk on others footsteps
you take on board their life.
each step carries the vibration
of their thoughts - and deeds.
people walk, lost in thought -
in their own pain or happiness.
filled with anger, sadness or tears.
perhaps with laughter, love or fears.
we carry so much within us,
that perhaps aren't our own emotions.
we can at times burden ourselves with too much,
let alone piggyback someone else's.
next time, carve a path that is your own.
carry only what is yours
and wipe your feet before entering your home.

Author notes

an interesting concept to mull over ... walking in someones shoes can easily go both ways ... walking the beach i see many different foot prints and try very hard not to step on any, call it a superstition, or simply psychic protection but something to think about hmmmmmmm?

I too am uneasy walking in someone else’s footprints. I have no idea why. I just don’t like to. Your poem is thoughtful and has an interesting slant.

You words made me think of a song of The son of Hickory Holler's Tramp that said: 'Oh, the path was deep and wide
From footsteps leading to our cabin'
. I guess we are unable to make ourselves small enough to observe and gain understanding of quantum physical phenomenons. Existence is infinitely much more complex than we are inclined to think. Had we been able to do that our perception may have changed dramatically. Good luck in the contest. Take care,
