I thought it was a castle’s turret
And I was a princess,
But life is not a metaphor,
Life is merely this:
Merely this moment,
Shining and pale,
Extinguishing predictably
Like an ancient faerietale.
I’ve searched through Once Upon A Time,
Found no frogs, nor a prince.
There are kisses and curses,
But no song of Sixpence.
There are storybooks
And heroines
Who don’t know how to feel,
But I have
No stone walls
And no spinning wheel.
Everything is spinning
And nothing’s ever new.
“Forever” is for never,
And dreams cannot stay true,
But there are shining moments
When I know what is right.
Courage is my faithful steed,
And Peace my shining knight!
I’ll gallop into Happily
And live until the day
When “forever after” ends
And Peace has run away,
And then I’ll find a tower
And scale its walls once more.
I’ll gaze at past and future
From behind the barrèd door,
Then open up the musty tomes
That tell my faerie story
And weep as failures, two by two,
Overwhelm the glories.
