The Forgottten

She once was a normal child
until that fateful day
She laughed, she loved, and she cried.
On all Hallow's Eve she went trick or treating for the very first time.
He was in a drunken escapade.
Going 80 in a 35 zone.
He filled his empty heart with alcohol
until he would collapse.
She was ready to have a fun filled night,
with candy, costumes, and fright.
He took her life,
and the Grim Reaper came.
But he came not for the girl
but for the man,
for he was never the same.

This is truly sad, did this really happen. I'm sorry if it did, and hope that you have moved on. Drunk driving is a daily battle unfortunately. Thanks for reminding all to rethink thier lives and to choose a better path. UNT

I think I may have read it in an old newspaper clipping. I can't remember. Thank you for the comment.

    very good message

I like the message you have sent in this poem. So sad that some people have to drink and hurt innocent people. I like this line:

"He filled his empty heart with alcohol
    until he would collapse."

Your ending lines really give the reader a surprise!

Thank you for entering this contest, and good luck!

That's great! I love it, I was so surprised by the ending.
the meaning's clearer than I'm used to and the setting more obvious but it's pretty sweet.

    Beautiful piece.
    Great message.
This contains a lot of imagery for such a short piece- wonderful!
    And I love that ending.

    Excellant/intriguing/challenging

A very fine write with a good purpose behind it. Which reminds me of my poem: "Reflections on the Drive In Movies", which is not about movies. Here's a link for those who haven't read it: http://allpoetry.com/poem/2865562
