elusive emotion
we strive to define
write pages and pages
and line after line
when its essence defies
to mere words be confined
a light in our eyes
that continues to shine
it is softness we feel
in a new baby's skin
a small hand that keeps
wrapped our finger within
a look that says 'help me'
I'm scared without you
a hug from a friend that
says 'I do too'
it's genderless, ageless,
timeless and more
was always, will always
forever, before
be a light in the darkness
for those to behold
a beacon without which
the world would be cold.
