of tortured composers and lost souls (of ebony and ivory keys)

for my muses beethoven, brahms, chopin, debussy, mozart, satie, and stravinsky
but mostly for beethoven

a simple chord causes my whole body to stir
the tension, the release
the suspension that digs into your side with all the strength it possesses
you want to cry then...
        ...ah, the resolution!
it hangs there for a moment
inverted
not complete
and the body aches for escape from the harsh dissonances
the crash of the percussion
the scream of the strings
the wail of the woodwinds
the moan of the brass
the sigh of the voices
the chord on the air is like an arrow to the heart
twisting
pulling at every fibre of your understanding
bringing back all the pain of your entire existance
in one
simple
chord
the time your heart was broken comes to the surface in that simple chord
the memories of death
of loss
of pain
all surfacing in a diminished 7 chord
the voices driving into you

it is in this moment
that you can clearly see a little boy
shaken by his father
beaten
in the shadows

oh, and I would also like to mention that I love this piece. It's amazing what we can come up with when inspired by the greats, isn't it?

I was at a concert for Tchaikovsky (i think thats how you spell it) this weekend, and I was so inspired that I whipped out my notebook and started writing in the middle of the performance.

i do that all the time! music is just such a powerful medium, sometimes its hard to get away from its power. and thanks so much. i am kind of proud of this piece. ^_^ but yeah, thanks. its good to hear my opinions affirmed by third parties. then i know that there must be something good about it, lol.

well, mostly it was me playing with the image of beethoven's childhood. beethoven was an abused child; its part of why they believe he went deaf so early in his life. his father was a single parent and apparently abused all his children. so basically, yeah, i was saying that in the tension of the chords, when you can feel like your soul is breaking, that is the music where beethoven expresses the pain of his own childhood. its all right there. but yeah, that's what i meant. hope that answers your question. ^_^
