Lost in my thoughts
And awake in my dreams
I never thought something like this
Could ever happen to me
I'm walking through a strange land
In another time
He's coming straight up at me
His arms are open wide
He said, "Son look this way
Right up there is your goal
You have to reach it now
Before you lose control"
The old man disappeared
Gone to some other place
I don't remember his voice
I don't remember his face
Lost in my thoughts
And awake in my dreams
I never thought something like this
Would ever happen to me
I'm walking through a strange land
In some other time
I have to find it right now
Before I lose my mind
But what he said to me
I could never forget
I have to find my way
Before my time is met
I finally made it
To my destiny
I knew that Heaven was here
It was calling for me
Lost in my thoughts
And awake in my dreams
I never thought something like this
Would ever happen to me
I finally made it home
I am right on time
Then I saw the old man
He said, "You did just fine"

Author notes
Written sometime in my late teens. I found the original handwritten poem, but unfortunately I did not date it. I do recall that I had written this as a song, I still remember the tune.

See what you find when cleaning things out at home?!
A very interesting piece, and while I can see some similarities between this and your current work, there are also huge differences.
