Basic Principles

Rule number one
What’s done is done
Never dwell in the moments of the past
Or all the good ones will never last

Rule number two
Never say, “I love you”(unless you really mean it)
Always be sincere
With those whom you hold most dear

Rule number three
There is no repartee
When it comes to fears and doubts
You either in or out

Rule number four
Never try to keep score
Because you know, to your chagrin,
She’ll always, always win

Rule number five
Be alive
Don’t ever let the passion die
And keep it still in great supply

Rule number six
There’s nothing you can’t fix
Don’t sit and dwell in fruitless pride
When true compassion lies inside

Rule number seven
Make your own heaven
Don’t wait until the end of days
To let her take your breath away

Rule number eight
Always have a clean slate
Ready at hand
And on demand

Rule number nine
Let your souls intertwine
Your lives become one
For, now………
You’ve begun

Author notes

This poem is about the rules of love and romance in general and is not specific to any particular type of companionship, for in essence, love is the most universal thing in the world, and in my opinion, cannot be categorized.

P.S. Aren't run-on sentences great?

Excellent, I completely agree and loves these rules. Good job with rhyming, not forced at all. Again, great rules because they basically cover all the necessary bases for a successful relationship (at least from a romantic perspective). Good luck in the contest!

    I LOVE it.

It's a great concept poem, and yes, run on sentences are great. It has a clear, predictable format that allows the reader to dwell in the comfort of this and this, and it comes after that. LOVELY.

Very well written. You are the first to actual do that. I loved the way it flowed. I am going to have to remember them because they are pretty good. Thanks for entering the contest and good luck.
