Alone

Empty.

The shopping cart
is pushed around,
yet it holds nothing.

Empty.

The boy pushes
his faithful cart,
yet his stomach
still remains
abandoned.

Empty.

The cart brings back
memories from
only God knows
how long ago

Memories of when
he and the shopping cart
weren't so

Empty.

Abandoned.

Alone.

I actually really like this. The words flow and the rhyme just sits perfectly. It's also an original metaphor - abandonment of a child likened to abandonment of a shopping cart, both in a previous life filled to the brim with food and goodies, and pushed forward by the parent? (Correct me where I'm wrong ).

My god... I love this... it hits me where it counts. I agree with TXCowgirl, it sounds like a poverty write, but whether it is or it isn't, its very very well written.

I feel that this could almost be about all of the poverty that we see and all of the children that go hungry every night because there parents don't have the means to keep food in the house. I felt this was quite a powerfully written poem.
