Two Warriors of the Battle of the Bulge

They are lying on the frozen ground.
One fought for the Uncle Sam and the other for Deutschland.
During their life time
they turned to bitter enemies.
They did not have any personal grudges
against each other.
It was their countries
who could not tolerate each other.
So in the battle of bulge
they fought each other for forty days and nights
in cold snowy German battle fields.
And on the fortieth night they killed each other.
Now they are sleeping side by side in peace
that peace which they did not get in the war.

You've woven quite a story and made it all quite personal.
this is a fine narrative poem

    Thanks for entering!

I really like how you say that the soldiers don't have anything against each other - it is the countries that have the problem. And you're right. The soldiers are out to fight the political disagreements of their contries. It's so stupid.

Just one thing - does everybody know that deutschland means germany? I didn't know that was commonly known by english speaking people...

A little plain, perhaps you could play with the sentence breaks, or whittle it down some, spice up the diction as well. Honestly, it just does not have enough bite my friend. A noble effort nonetheless.
