Give Me This Night

give me this night
not for raging passions
but the rustle of silky words
careless touches

and stolen moments

I’ll close my eyes and cling

to this precarious moment
as I let the music

course through my body
and dance to the rhythm

of happiness

how long has it been

since I’ve felt this?

perhaps it’s that look in your eyes

the brush of your fingers

the smell of your skin or
the sound of your breathing

so familiar and yet alien

breathe this moment with me

smell it, taste it

feel it against your face

and your cheek

for in the morning

it will all dissipate and

the moment will be lost

forgotten and broken

but for tonight. . .

I clutch this moment to my heart

oh, I miss romance! Ha, I have true love, passion even, but romance sorta has left the building after 11 years of marriage. I guess we've been taking each other for granted, lol.

Wonderful poem, btw. It took my breathe away!

Can I say thank you from the bottom of my heart? There is no greater compliment than to hear that you have taken someone's breath away with your written words. You have just made my whole day and I sooo appreciate you for it.

I love the passion and romance that I felt while I was reading this. I like the way it took a hold of my heart and held it, leaving me breathless and wanting more. I have loved everything of yours that I have read, but I think out of all I have read so far, this byfar is one of the prettiest pieces I have read to date. I must say this is most definately a winner. I wish you all the luck in the world in this contest.

    Very Romantic

I absolutely adore this poem. I like the soft romance that this poem holds. You have penned such a beautiful poem of love and romance yet leaving it up to the reader's imagination as to where things might go...I love that. I found this to be passionate without being vulgar. Nicely done and best of wishes to you in your contest.

sometimes in relationships, when time intervenes in the longstanding relationship, the moments we intimately treasure grow fewer and farther apart until they get lost in memories, memories we cling to as we age, a longing for the passionate fires of youthful zeal and lusty romances which began on Friday evenings and lingered long into Mondays. at least it seems that way, reaching for a hand for comfort more than intimacy is more the norm. old shoes, I think feel like this, and long gazes into fire places that have gone stone cold. It is a rare treasure when one finds the embers glowing and ready to ignite, one that should be guarded jealously, held close to the heart. A marvelous poem

    blessings and best wishes,

You always seem to have a knack for knowing where my thoughts are traveling at any given moment. Thank you for such wonderful understanding.

WOW !!! Again, you capture a moment and savor it. I was captivated by that moment, and felt a little heartache at the lines:

    ~for in the morning
    it will all dissipate and
    the moment will be lost
    forgotten and broken ~

but I was uplifted by the final two lines.......
nicely done, good luck in the contest.

Thank you for such a great comment and yes, there was a bit of sadness infused there. We all hate to see good moments end, but end they must.

this is very beautiful... i liked this stanza the best: "breathe this moment with me,smell it, taste it,
    feel it against your face
    and your cheek
    for in the morning
    it will all dissipate
    the moment will be lost,
forgotten and broken." very beautiful..keep the pen moving
