"Cthulhu Fhtagn" – Cthulhu Lies Dreaming

Oh Lord rise from long slumber
afore the enemy can cast chains anew,
to trap ever unending in silence,
rotting in thy ruined tomb,
The fallen city of old, R’lyeh.

Here now this Immortal’s call,
signs come to priests of your dreams
that were foretold in ages old,
ere eons passed in forgetfulness
of the majesty that thou still possess.

Stars long dimmed shine fierce,
light bursts asunder in grandiose inferno
as alignment interminability prophesied,
tells tale of designs come to pass,
awaken from thy dream at last.

Apocalypse comes now in your wake,
Oh Unnamable, ever revered
mountain of slime from the depths,
creep in horror to destroy the earth
and minds of the tainted progeny.

No Old Ones now remain,
standing against the inevitability,
the engulfing of all that resides,
to thy will and whim,
eternally ruling in wicked supremacy.

Picture prompt:
http://allpoetry.com/images/ext/Contest/2370/756.jpg?1190987677

Inspired by the picture prompt and by the Cthulhu mythos, originally written by H.P. Lovecraft and carried on by various other writers.

I see this picture as that of one of the priests of the Cthulhu cult and this piece is a prayer dedicated by the cult, an incantation as it were calling on Cthulu to arise.

I like spiritually dark and you managed this well. I was confused by all those names that to me sounded a little welsh 'chtu something' lol, just shows how uneducated I am *goes back to school*. Nice imagery.

Thanks. Cthulhu is a mythical character in the mythos of the writings of HP Lovecraft and has been written about and referenced by many other writters since.

It's a bugger of a name to spell.

Thank you very much. I enjoyed writing this piece, but it took a while to think out.

actually, the Cthulhu Mythos were written by H.P. Lovecraft, not Edgar Allen Poe.

    otherwise... Great job!

Many thanks! Of course it is! lol. My head was in such a clutter when I was posting this piece, I dunno why I typed Poe instead of Lovecraft, bloody mind was wandering. What makes it worse was that I didn't even check my authors notes nor the categories, because I seem to have typed Poe in there as well.

Old age is creeping in, I think....
