When I get older,
I want to be a woman,
Want to know what to say (how), know what to wear (with what).
I'll be a woman, I'll be a lady,
Grace will fall on me one of these days.
Soon I will sit on a chair,
Instead of happily nestling on the ground,
I'll smile at the people I don't like,
Be able to fake kindness everywhere.
When I'm a lady,
Everything will be effortless.
I'll make the right decisions,
Without ever trying.
I'll never get so mad that I will see red,
Never slam my door and flop on my bed.
I'll have clothing and jewelry galore,
Kiss my husband good night, hope my children sleep tight.
When I'm older,
I hope I'll remember me...
Remember the girl that I used ot be.
I hope that tales of my wrong-doings now
Will entertain me far into my years.
Hope that the song I'm singing now,
Will be heard in yesteryears.
I hope that I grow along the way,
Not shed myself entirely to be full-grown.
I wish that when I'm a girl,
I can act like a woman.
I hope that when I'm a lady,
I can act like a girl.
