Shattered Windows

You were always the strong one
The one with all the answers
You were always the rock
we clung to through the storm
Now I look into your eyes
and all I see is shattered glass
The windows of your soul
smashed beyond repair

What is it that stops you reaching out
to those who are here for you
Do you think we will betray your trust
by walking away
It's like you're in a fortress
walled about with stone and iron
Pride, or fear, or guilt
holding us at bay

So I'm knocking on that drawbridge
Demanding you let me in
So hard to see you like this
So utterly wrong
Please lean on me now
as I've always leaned on you
Let us mend the shattered windows
together
