What Love Means...

Missing image

When he's been gone far too long,

you know the sound of his engine

coming down the street

& open the door before he gets out of the car,
rushing out barefoot to greet him,
even if it's raining.

He smells like fish & sweat,

yet you embrace him anyway,

so glad he's finally home where he belongs.

When he dozes off, you cover him gently

with a blanket, pretending to read quietly

while he snores ~ you faithfully & gratefully

watch over him, guarding his dreams.

When he awakens, his coffee is waiting beside him ~

you softly smile & say "Good morning, Sweetheart"

& your eyes glisten with truth.

"When he's been gone far too long,

you know the sound of his engine

    coming down the street

& open the door before he gets out of the car,
rushing out barefoot to greet him, even if it's raining"

Yes...this is what love means. Hugs even though he smells of fish and sweat, coffee waiting in the morning. So beautifully done, Wanda. This is what I want...a love like this.

This poem reminds me about my own, and I am happy to see the same on your site, defining love almost the same way. The beauty of simplicity...even without morning coffee...
Following lines are speaking volume to me
    ~
while he snores ~ you faithfully & gratefully
watch over him, guarding his dreams.

Dang, gf...I remember when..... Richard always has coffee going for me in the morning. He gets it all rady the evening before and takes great pride in perking it before I get up. Yes, we searched all over for that metal perk kind. I used to always be the coffee amker, getter, cleaner..I have gratefully suceded my job. wonderful job.

All the little things that make a home, make a heart... the building blocks of love. Lovely piece of poetry that shows love - to paint love is never simple yet you make it look so easy. I think it was Bukowski that said "a true poet knows how to write the hard the simple way" - and that's what you've done here. I agree with Zayra - such a lover you are...stay that way!

I can see all the signs in the images and the song runs soft and low as it becomes the glow of joy you live in. Call it love, call it completeness but the meaning is always the same as joy becomes the banked fires found in peace. Love, Tom B.

i'm not letting my husband read it either .

it's so sweet, and very romantic. but i admit (this has nothing to do with your beautiful poem) if my dear fishy smelly hubby tried to run after me for a hug, i would lovingly run his bathwater, heheehe.

truly, this made me think of winter time, lamplight and cozy mornings that only two in love can share. very intimate. you're a lovely soul.

    ..what-the-hell? lol.

    incredibly touching in

a raw and realistic, emotional way... ordinary moments captured with all the intensity they contain...
