Memories of Grandmother

memories of grandmother

chrystallize in my mind

as treasurable gems

no longer as teardrops

that once flowed lavishly

yet, after all these years

grief's darkness lingers

waiting to betray me

when I'm most vulnerable

placing me back in time

when I last held her hand

together we wept

too quickly she was gone

Your memories are a most welcome addition here, the fondness, the tenderness towards your grandmother offered here in gentle form. I adore the way you honor her with this piece. It is, truly, very touching. There is a word here, I think many might pass by, I almost did…my dyslexic mind screws up a lot of things, but it allows me to see things, ‘different’ The word chrystallize is wonderful, a nudge toward the unconsciously creative mind where the combining words of Chrysalis and Crystal merge into a brilliant image of hope, emergent . You have such creativity when you express like this, allowing the heart to flow freely. Oh, I know you write those other poems, ones everyone seems to enjoy. But for me, its poems like this one, when you write like this, that linger…like stars do - - in the night sky after a Fourth of July extravaganza, the bursts of excitement over – what truly matters, what stays etched in eternity are poems like this one, where your grandmother smiles through, and beyond, the brief tears of this life. Thank you again, for entering your poem here, it is a treasure.

    Blessings and best wishes,

    ~r.

I, too, cherish those memories past...even the bitter ones of loss because they are all I have left to hold on to in the present. Good luck in the contest.

    Sincerely,

    For the most part

all I remember is Grandmothers. My father's dad died before I was born and mom's dad died when I was three. I think I have one or two dim memories of him barking at me... I was scared of him.

Dad's mom died when I was in College (after 5 years in navy), and Mom's mom made it a few years into this century, so had many fond memories of both of them. Nice tribute.

    Lovely

This is such a sad yet beautifully penned poem about someone that was obviously very close to you. I am sorry that you still feel greif's darkness in your heart, but I do hope that you will take comfort in knowing that this person will always live in your heart and that you can recall the happy memories that you have about this person. As a woman it is so nice to see people taking Breast Cancer Awareness month to heart. Thank you for being on of those people. Best wishes to you in the contest.

Beautifully written. The thought, feeling, and concern is there; it's as if I am the one standing there. Great work for a great cause.
