And, as I reached to touch him,
he pushed my hand away.
And, though he could not speak,
his eyes did seem to say-
"Why do you moun my passing?
Why do you feel such pain?
If dying were an ending,
wouldn't living be insane?
The sky will still change colors
from grey to azure blue
and love, that age old mystery,
will pledge its' vows anew.
Children will be born
and wars will still be fought
and the future will still hide
the changes fools have wrought.
And, though the cynics still will say
that faith is just our fears
I know that God will wait for me
to wipe away my tears.
And, my soul shall fly to paradise
a place of endless peace.
And, there my child, I'll wait for you
when time for you does cease."
A clarity was reached
in that time so long ago
when my father's voice, though muted
still touched my very soul.
And, when it comes my time,
I hope that you will see
that the end is the beginning
for the spirits God sets free.
