Sorry, this isn't a poem, it's a rant. It was a post I wrote on a debate over Christianity, but on reflection it was a little over the top, and not the place for it. But I liked my rant, so I wanted to keep it.
*************************************************
Awesome a religious discussion! I love fighting with religious (I'm atheist), because I often find their arguments funny.
Alright let's get cracking shall we.
**Disclaimer** When I am discussing religious views, I am talking about the vocal 'majority' that I know of. I've had arguments in the past about "but not all Christians do that..." and they are correct, not ever Christian is 'bad'. However the analogy I use is this. When 9/11 took place, Muslim leaders around the world came out and said "That's terrorists that's not us. We don't agree with them." Unfortunatly, for all the bigotry, hatred, false science, and pain I see the Christians inflict, to this DAY I've never seen one stand up from his Church and say "I don't support that".
NOW. Here are my issues:
* Anti-abortion: Deep down, even for myself, this is a hard topic. But you should have a little facts before you picket out the front of an abortion clinic calling the doctor's murderers and the women whores. Abortions aren't just done for 16yr old unwanted pregnancies. They are done for a range of issues. Rape victims, birth defects, dangerous pregnancies (EG, ectopic pregnancies). And a whole host of other issues. Furthermore, if it IS for unwanted pregnancy, they have a whole host of counselling before hand, talking about the other options (adoption, or even raising the child). AND lastly, if they were to become illegal, great, they go BACK TO being done underground. In the back yard, with a knitting needle. So instead of loosing a embryo, you now are loosing an embryo and potentially the mother too.
It's unfortunate that abortions take place, it really is. But they are done for many reasons and instead of being Christians and being nice and caring in what would be the hardest time in a females life, you call her a whore.
Atheist 1, Christians 0.

Science: I've done a degree, and when doing so the furthest we could go from "original proof" was 2. That is, Ned does research, and Tom quotes Ned, and Bill quotes Tom. We can use Tom's work, but NOT Bill's. It's considered too far removed to draw acceptable conclusions. Science is all about observable practice. Be it the way wind moves in the air with velocity, or be it the way certain brain areas light up when your happy. Every single piece of science on the planet is based off what we observe OR it's not science.
Creative Design. Give me a flying break. Humans riding dinosaurs (that stupid museum in Texas). It'd be comical if it wasn't so scary. We are actually, by allowing this mumbo jumbo hog wash crap into our classrooms, lowering our collective intelligence. There is a THEORY of evolution, true. But it has EVIDENCE from observation. We've seen evolution. Farmers have been doing it for years through selective breading. If you've ever eaten anything in your life, you've benefited from evolution, and that's JUST in the last 2000 years or so. If you want to believe God made the universe go for it, but don't belittle science by stating the worlds 4000years old. If you want to argue science then as far as I'm concerned, strip naked and walk out into the forest. If you can't accept it's real and seek to say it's fake, than live without it. Go without your plumbing, your clothes, your internet and TV and McDonalds and go hunt.

Caring:
I have a saying that pisses of a lot of religious people. "Christians help other's to appease God. Atheist's do it because it's right." Why do Christians need to feed starving kids (GOOD!) but only if they learn from the bible (BAD!). It's like here, we've got food for you, but only if you abandon your culture and lifestyle, learn English and western ways and, oh yeah, believe in God. What kind of fucked up shit is that.
Part of being an Atheist means not believing in a higher power. But follow that thought. If there's no higher power, then the only people we can rely on, are ourselves. Most atheists are global citizens. That is, they think about the world in the terms of 1 colour/race what have you. Humans. We're ALL in this together and we need to help each other.
Instead, Christians have an "Us and them" approach. You're either a Christian or your a sinner and you're going to hell. You're either a heterosexual, or you're going to hell. Nice. There are, last time I checked, 153 known species on the planet to show homosexual tendencies, are all of THEM going to hell? I hate wikipedia quoting, but since I've not got time to go check my science books, here's the link (follow their references) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_animals_displaying_homosexual_behavior
But no, that's not God's way, right? So we throw out the homosexuals. But we don't JUST say "oh they are going to hell". Oh no, we're CHRISTIANS damn it. We need to protest. We need to picket against homosexuals as they are corrupting society. We need to bash them up. To murder them. To not allow them to marry and have the same basic rights as a DE FACTO heterosexual couple have (Since at the moment homosexuals can't give medical consent for anything, aren't entitled to superannuation, have to be specifically announced in a will, etc). No it's the Christian way to treat these heathens as second class citizens. Cause they are. Cause they sleep with the same gender.
It's not just homosexuals though. I mean shit, if we're going to follow Levictius 18:22 " Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. " (Bad homosexuals bad!), than let's keep going on Levictius 19:19 "neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee". Well shit better take of my coat then, else I might go to hell. Oh yeah and Levictius 20:9 " For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death". Kids, watch your mouth, or mummy and daddy are going to KILL YOU.
Atheists 3.... Christians 0
4: Then of course there's condoms (A4, C0)... There's giving money away, ESPECIALLY sadistic is the catholic 'give money or your dying loved one will spend eternity in purgatory" (A5, C0).... gimme 10 more minutes to cover the crusades, a few inquisitions, the whole mass genocides around the place, and....
Patronising aren't I. You're right. I am. And to those 'Christians' out there that life good, just, wholesome lives, I can understand you getting pissed off about that. But here's the thing. By saying you're a Christian, and then by letting this bigotry and hatred happen by other Christians, than why CANT I label you as the same? I'm sure German soldier's in WW2 were probably fighting the right cause, had good intent to do so for their nation... but at the end of the day they were our enemy and their leader was Hitler. Christians are in the same boat. I see bigotry and hatred spilling out of 'Christians' on TV on radio and I don't hear a word from Christians against it. All it takes for evil to prosper is for good men to do nothing. Why should atheists and atheists alone battle this hatred?
Religion is an archaic left over from our past that we need to get rid of, or it'll destroy the world.

That ain't an argument it's a plea: and a miserable one at that. Does that make you a miserable pleader??
-
-
What?

I think the pleader bit should have been against your other essay! Whoops.

Some errors found - not all: loosing a embryo, you now are loosing an embryo / should be, losing; "a" should be "an" embryo (typo); "selective breading" / selective breeding; worlds 4000 / world's 4000; cant (a kind of rant) / can't. This is my fusspot area.
By the way, I don't hate you, but I hate bigots which I do not suggest YOU are. Religion is guilty of many things as is/are politics. But the Christians gave us Universities, Schools, Hospitals and hope aeons ago. Did the atheists give us those? - Even now?
And, finally, the spellcheck (I use it all the time) can not detect the wrong word in the right place as my little list above tends to show; we have to use spellcheck plus inspection, here ends the 74 year old rant, cant, whatever.

AHH so it's the 'computer dyslexia' striking again. Ever typed think when you meant thing. I do that shit all the time.

Admitting that this is a "rant" in no way excuses poor use of English or gross spelling errors, it is as though your fervour (anger?) is spilling out uncontrolled - as often happens to those on a soapbox at Speakers' Corner. This is important because we are on a site that has (at least) leanings towards literacy. By the way you might get your facts about the doctrine of Purgatory into focus. One bad call makes the rest somewhat suspect I think.

Ok well I checked the spelling with AllPoetry, and I also have Firefox / Google Toolbar that checks spelling on the fly. So I'm not entirely sure what spelling errors your talking about. Perhaps it's different English?
Secondly, as for grammar and style, I wrote this the way I speak. It was a debate I was having online and afterwards I copied my text, edited it, and made it into this post.
Lastly as for the purgatory thing. I'm a nurse and I worked for a time in a palliative care ward. There was a little box there where relatives could place money to 'pay' for the sins of their loved ones before they died. When I started in the ward I didn't have a clue what it was for and I was told it was to avoid purgatory. Whether this is what is in the bible, or in your particular religion, or if it's something more local I don't know. You show me a bible and one "Christian" group and I'll show you 5 that contradict it. I had the box removed from the ward. When the priest/minister whatever his title was came to collect it, I told him not to bring it back.
Taking money, off people in their most grief stricken state, has got to send them straight to the hell they believe in. -

Absolutely right - you should have kicked his butt at the same time!

so true!! i've been saying this over and over again to people in my sociology class who say Christianity is the most caring religion!!!
I said that not believing in God doesn't make me any less caring!!
I'm printing this off and giving it to all of them!!!
thanks for sharing.

spot on
i agree, atheism , or not believing in g-d doesnt make one immoral, we need to start believing in people again, not a figure that is seen to be a large old man in "heaven" waiting to save us. and as for the bible, both testaments are riddled with things like condoning rape and murder and theft, and yet it says thou shalt not steal and thou shalt not kill and thou shalt not commit adultury, its all very contradictory dont you agree?
