Like a mosaic of life
With every topping
Like a new chapter to find
Coconut milk, fresh from the uncle in geylang
Green pandan noodles, made with care from auntie's market
Brown palm sugar molasses, enticing and rich-
Like the shores of Pulau Kusu
The ice shaves, like a culture reveals its core
The spoon clanks, like all voices in harmony
The taste soothes, from the hot Hari Raya Rendang-
Like the tropical rain, calmly ringing on a day's aching
That is chendol
My bowl of paradise
My savour of home
That calls me back
With its mystical vibe
And silhouette
of memories.....
Author notes
My favorite dessert from Singapore. I haven't had it in ages, until I found a restaurant while visiting my brother at college recently. I literally want to scream in delight as I took spoonfuls of chendol. I usually don't write poetry like this, but I thought that I would just give a try at one after I saw this contest.

Did it still show up as entered in the contest? I actually put it in but then pulled it out a minute later last night because I had an idea for another. I entered a poem titled "stinging love."

Yes Roti it did show up. BUt it seems to not be in contest now. Your 'stinging love' poem is in, though.

Oh god roti you're giving me a sweet tooth. Thanks to you I may end up running to the store to buy every kind of sweet thing I enjoy. I don't know whether to be thankful or mad about that. lol. Just kidding. I like this very much. I don't think I've read this side of your poetry before. Whether I have or not I'm quite impressed. Thank you for sharing this and good luck in the contest. But whether you win something or not, you're a first place champion writer in my heart. I love you, little brother.

Thanks Brian! I've never written this kind of poetry before really, just tried it now. I'll still mainly stick to my usual style, but once in a while I might put stuff out like this. Even writing this, I still tried to incoporate my usual ways of writing with the metaphors and stuff, and it came pretty naturally. Thanks again, I always appreciate your input.
With care,
-Roti
