Women are complex, men have avowed,
but sisters know that definition, absolutely out loud.
You find us in the Laundromat, wearing our last clean clothes,
in mines, in dollar and dimes, in food lines, God knows.
How we think and feel is not an anomaly,
it’s just our way of being human in a world, unholy.
Half the sky is held up, by those who’ve simply had to guess
at how to make do while making more for less.
What we do is not seen as worth; scream on birthing bed,
that means we’d give our very lives no matter how we’re bled.
Our daily household chores, a hand to fevered brow,
a hard and heated life she’ll lead in every here and now
for men who will despise her, sons who will deprive her,
and daughters who will deceive her until she’s bent in blur
of why she would continue when such sorrow is her due
and grief her heart-deep stigma that tears her through and through.
How we suffer is not clear at times, we tell not a soul:
It’s just a deep and personal hurt that keeps you from knowing us full.
It’s the reason the sky still holds, while she folds your clothes
and smiles while her children walk away and door to marriages close.
She forgives the world its chaos’, she forgives our men their flaws,
she survives because she must, in spite of man-made laws
that no longer keep us safe, no longer call us sacred nor provider
because this is who she is and how our god has made her.

"...because this is who she is and how our god has made her."...this line struck me as if I was a drum waiting for it...the entire piece is a painting of womanhood and somehow gives me strength...I feel that sense of another back supporting my own...thanks for this one Carol...and honor it is to Cannonsfire and to you...Peace, Rhonda

One who speaks in a holy voice would know these things all too well. Beautifully penned, my Sister. You know Womankind so deeply & so well. Brava!!!

Michael thomas was writing soem incredible poetry and this got me going again on this goddess series that took up most of my day yesterday. So much is going on in the world...and right here in our coutnry our girls and chidlren are being waged war against. It has become an epidemic... a few days news and then it becomes suceded by something bigger and better in washington... such a warped world...

I am not sure if I feel at all worthy for this honor Carol, but it has made me smile to see you touch on some things that are so very near and dear to my heart and maybe woman to woman and sister to sister we think and feel so much alike that even if we do not know one another in real life, our souls have somehow touched and are in sync. I thank you for the honor. Love, C

Feverish or easy? You make it seem like an exercise of no effort to write so much and so deep about issues, Carol. I am bidding on your diaries - up to date.
