Little Pieces of Lies For Dessert-silver

Who lied to us about god and goddesses,
was it Santa with his coal and gifts,
Easter Bunny and his chocolate eggs,
Snow White and her Eve-ish apple?

Well-painted icons and images point to pathways
that Society would have us follow
like little pack mules, like asses, like good little lambs
being led to a slaughter of many kinds.

Folding our hands and swinging little patent shoes in pews
too tall for feet to fit firmly on the ground,
did us no good, even if we held that wafer on our tongues
hoping it would never dissolve.

Truly, learning that beatings
with a stick no rounder than a thumb
was acceptable on a page you shoved in my face
just before the judge called us in, closed the book for me
and I had no more dinners with you
where I cracked chicken bones for the marrow.

We are lied to in every quarter, still:  Every advertisement
is based on greed, not truth; each politician made their way
with one hand on the bible, the other in the grip of evil;
men say, “Death ‘til we part” and really mean the whole
of it is “’til death do we part.”  Oh yes, that is about as close
to real no matter how it is said, or acted out over wedding feasts.

I was spoonfed fairytales the same as all the others
where little girls were eaten first by the wicked witch
living in the gingerbread house but I am not listening anymore.

You all ate my home. There are no just desserts.

in your face with social commentary. a good take on the prompt. at times it felt like a rant more than a poem though.

So clearly you see and speak the Truths, that even good people do not think of. Thank God, for Seers like you to bring these atrocities to the forefront...
