How do you justify . . War !

Missing image

How do you justify

The fallout of war ?

The deaths and the injuries

The desolation, the gore

Can it be balanced by victory

The medals and gain . .

Or is all humanity the loser

And are politicians insane

How do you quantify

The lists of the dead . .

And the agony of relatives

Expecting news they will dread

The homeless, the hungry . .

That scavenge to survive

The maimed and the crippled

That lament being . . alive

Can’t something be done

To rationalize the cost

To counter aggression

Before more lives are lost

Is sharing so repugnant

Must greed rule mans head

Could future enemies be vanquished

Simply by sharing some bread

Stop hating race . . on principle

Dividing red white and black

Or needing another mans assets

Like the oils of Iraq . .

Does democracy bring equality

When somebody must rule

The more that I analyze . .

The more I conclude I’m a fool . .

Are religions good reason

To march off to wars . .

Should Jews, Muslims and Christian

Continually rekindle old scores

I wish God in his heaven

Would bang religious heads together

And insist His Bible, Torah and Koran

Should make better endeavor

No . . I simply can’t justify

The wars that I’ve seen ?

The deaths and the injuries

They are simply . . obscene

Beautiful poem, and so true. This is titled appropriately- how DO you justify war? When you break it down, the answer is...there is no way. War is pointless- over material things, or difference of religion, or the color of skin. I am afraid that the human race will never see how STUPID we can be...
but more to the point, you truly did an incredible job with this. Heartfelt, easy to understand, but it does pack a punch and the word choice is very nice. It flowed easily and stimulated the mind. Excellent write.

    How to prevent war

People at war are insane, because killing and destruction are detrimental to people. Get the world populace to see that this is self-evident. No one wants to be considered crazy unless they are crazy. This principle is already working to control nuclear weapons -- just needs to be realized, scaled down to sticks and stones.

so real and true. it is the greed of man that ignites war. power mongers create more than war though. they create famine and homelessness as well as many other ill gottens. 52? I believe it. my question will go unanswered in my lifetime, "when and where will our world be? when war has never been uttered in any sense, nor known? someone once uttered an answer to me.
"when mankind has fully demised itself." I choose to believe inside this millenium, that our descendants will come to a place w/out war, famines, disease and corporate societies, military infrastructures, etc.
~utopia. your thoughts? here? very provocatived!!!!!

such bold truth in these wise words

and so very painful to hear the realities in your voice.
We Americans worked so hard we first entered the gates
of New York so poor from our boats...now we're so safe
we don't even remember how it was ........before.
    Smart clean writer you are!
Thankyou for writing this and sharing it with us!

As usual Albert, you have penned a poem of feelings straight from that giant heart of yours. The questions you pose in this work need answers. I am standing in agreement with you...I have no means to "justify war". For me the act of one human being (legally) killing the next is inexplicable. You have some mind-pondering stanzas written here. I would highlight the one that affected me most but the entire poem as a whole did that. You author's notes startled me. I did not realize that war was raging on this planet as it is. I hate to sound disparaging but I don't think it will get better before it gets worse. Greed is abounding. The seven deadly sins are affecting the hearts of humankind, and Satan is having his reign. I guess it is as it is written. That doesn't mean that we should ever stand for the insanity. You have done well to expose so many truths. Although this poem is heart-wrenching it needs to be heard. Masterfully written!

I haven't read a piece like this in while, mainly because they are hard for me to read. I am glad I took the jump to read this though cause it touched my heart. You have so many thought provoking statements that would make anyone think (Pro War, Anti War, people who just don't care either way cause they have their 5.6 million dollar mansion) Beautiful job!

'Stop hating race . . on principle

    Dividing red white and black

    Or needing another mans assets

Like the oils of Iraq . .'

Was my favorite stanza. They whole poem flowed smoothly and was easy to read. I loved it! Kudos all around!

    very good

    an issue that needs attention
especially that when i grew up
vietnam was supposed to be the end
you know, i don't get it
    billions of dollars
to change people's hearts and mind
    as in
    "yes, we love america"
    "yes, we want democracy"
    i was just in florida
    it was a planned community
street grid, north / south, east / west
    sjopping mall here, bank there
restaurant on this block, cvs on the other corner, etc
    i told my friend
why don't they put this in iraq
    and
    say to the people
this is what we offer you
believe me, they will all want that american dream
    house with whiter picket fence
but, your verse brings attention to an issue that needs it
    someday, may you write
    we live in peace
