What have I done?
I wanted adventure.
Now here I am,
In a strange land
Getting shot at.
How much is adventure worth?
What have I done?
I wanted my college paid for.
Now here I am,
Checking the remnants
Of a bombed-out school.
How much is college worth?
What have I done?
I wanted money for my family.
Now here I am,
Picking up the pieces
Of a dead child.
How much is money worth?
What have I done?
I wanted to follow in my father's footsteps.
Now here I am,
Killing a father
Who tried to kill me.
How much is tradition worth?
What have I done?
I wanted to protect my country
from others who see us as wrong.
To protect our belief
That we are all free
To believe what we want.
Now here I am,
Chasing terrorists through a desolate country,
Not knowing who is my friend,
Who is my enemy.
I am here,
A barrier between right and wrong.
Putting my life on the line
To keep my family safe
Along with my country.
Watching my brothers and sisters die
To do the same.
How much is freedom worth?

Beautiful
It is not War that we as men fight for, But for the right to be called something more then just men.
Remember that with out Evil Men we would not have war but with out Good Men we would not have Victory. Thank you for the beautiful effort that you put into this poem, I enjoyed it very much.

I love this poem. It reminds me of David who I talk to everyday that is overseas. He wants to come home so bad. He hates it there. Hes asking himself the same questions that you mentioned. War is not worth it!

No war is worth it...you have brought to light many questions, and I did delight in reading this.. thank you for sharing ~blessings to you always~

Pleasing
How much can war ever be worth? We all know the answer but we keep on doing it. Even though what you are saying has all been said before, your poem still says it well. Thanks for writing it.

Thank you so much for the positive feedback on Accidental Impact. That means a lot to me. This poem completely blew me away. It caught all the right emotions in me. Beautiful.

I like how this was done and what it says. I imagine a lot of young people who join the military and end up overseas fighting in a war on foreign soil, probably ask themselves some of the same questions.
Congrats. on the Bronze. Well done.

I loved the question format of this. I especially liked the way you ended with a sort of answere to all the questions. Thank you for entering my contest.
