Confusion

He was the one I’d loved for years,
And wanted for all time;
The one my heart was given to,
For whom I’d written rhymes.

But when I finally found the strength
To tell him of my heart,
He either did not understand,
Or cared not for my part.

I’m trying to give up on him,
But still I find it hard.
He broke my heart, but it still loves
Him with each tiny shard.

And even with all that, it seems
My heart can still be healed.
If someone else could love me, then
To him my heart would yield.

Him, also, have I loved for long,
Though he has known it not.
My honor has forbidden me
To cast in my last lot.

I don’t know if he loves me, though
There’s some who say it’s true.
If so, I have no plan in mind—
I know not what to do.

Author notes

Once again, inspired by real life. More of an outpouring of feelings than a true poem, so don't criticize too harshly, please. I just had to get it out.
