O, sweet kitty cat.
Your fur, it is silky,
Your tummy not fat.
The rodents you kill,
Into the house you will bring.
Not so much in winter,
But always in spring.
A mouse near the TV,
A squirrel in Mom’s room,
A crow with the laundry
She swats with a broom.
How cute and how cuddly
And harmless you seem.
Look, there’s a dead bunny.
Please say it’s a dream.
A bat flying loose
In the rafters above.
The tail of a rat,
But my cat I still love.
This once was a bird,
Now just feathers remain.
To us it is gross,
But to you, just a game.
This looks like a mousy,
Though, I can’t really tell.
All that’s left is a stomach
And a terrible smell.
O gato, my gato,
My sweet kitty cat.
Mother does hate dead rodents,
So please don’t do that!
So cute you do look,
With your fuzzy black hair,
But please little Edgar,
Don’t give Mom such a scare.
O listen, dear kitty,
And happy you’ll live,
For spinning rides on the chair
And many scritches we’ll give.
Author notes
The name means "mischievous Cat" in Spanish. This is a true story oddly enough, my cat Edgar likes to bring things into the house, dead or alive. In the last line there is a word I used, "scritches" in my family, it means scratches on the head... for kitty-cats. Also, my crazy kitty likes to be spun around on our computer chair until he is dizzy. I hope you enjoy and laugh.

Wonderful
I love it and I got a good laugh out of it. I have a cat too who I love dearly she is like my daughter. Her favorite thing to bring in is lizards, she waits by my front door where there is a space between the base of the door and the floor then when she sees a lizard slaps her claws into it and pulls it in the house.
Bravo! *hugs*

Edgar sounds like a lethal weapon! And a beautiful boy (of course)! Great poem and made me laugh. (I used to have a guy who used to leave mouse limbs around the verandah. The day I opened the door and saw a mouse head on the doormat was a bit hard to take though).

thank you for the smile
. I do remember those cat antics well [for the most part they were fieldmice that my cat properly named "Cruiser" used to bring me]. Unfortunately it was a year ago in January that we had to have Cruiser put to sleep [he succumbed to old age and kidney disease] that kept him from eating and drinking for the last couple days of his life.
. It was as the kind veterinarian said "Kitty had lived a good life and now was tired". Oh hgow i still miss him

Wish your cat could give my 5 cats lessons in hunting!
A darling poem that tickles my fancy!
Really wonderful story here, and such an entertaining way you talk to the cat as the cat continues to bring in the prizes of the hunt!

Oh, that nut cat! He is truly one of a kind. And to think that someone dared leave him in a dumpster! I love this just as I did the first time I read it. But you left something out . . . the nose. That single rat nose he left on the stepping stones. I like the flow to this, and the sing-song tone fits this Edgar ode quite well.
