The journey was long
A hardship, a trial
You thought I was wrong
And yet I smile
This is the end; my search is done
I am tired and worn
But the spoils of war I’ve won
And so I do not mourn
To be worthy; one last test
Between us stand a strong door
It is this that I must best
To get what I long for
Through the keyhole I peek
To catch a glimpse, a glance
Of that which I seek
But I find I have no chance
Although I long to clutch
And it’s close enough to see
My treasure I may not touch
For I do not have the key!
A failure!
Checkmate
But I’ll endure
After all; No one can best fate
A hardship, a trial
You thought I was wrong
And yet I smile
This is the end; my search is done
I am tired and worn
But the spoils of war I’ve won
And so I do not mourn
To be worthy; one last test
Between us stand a strong door
It is this that I must best
To get what I long for
Through the keyhole I peek
To catch a glimpse, a glance
Of that which I seek
But I find I have no chance
Although I long to clutch
And it’s close enough to see
My treasure I may not touch
For I do not have the key!
A failure!
Checkmate
But I’ll endure
After all; No one can best fate
Author notes
This is a very rough, very unpolished version of the poem. I just wrote this, the skeleton for what I hope will be a decent poem. But as it is, it is rough and not finished, so don't base it on it's roughness, but on it's idea, if you please. I've lost the desire to finish it for now, so I'm post this - the bare bones. I'll fill the poem out later, and update this.
