Changes

Twenty-one long years have passed by,
Since I was accidently brought into this world.
Memories both good and bad have been stamped,
Imprinted within, forever a part of who I am.

I'm not perfect nor will I ever be close
I've made tons of mistakes in my life.
Fucked up a lot of things and left home,
Gave up all hope and wanted to quit living.

Slowly I'm realizing life is what I make of it,
One day maybe there's a chance I'll be good enough.
I wandered down a very lonely trail,
Pushing away all who wanted a chance to care.

I was taught that no one helps anyone for nothing,
For this fear I've held myself back from everyone.
Just as I no longer saw anymore light,
Something amazing and unbelievable saved me.

Within these last few years alot has occured,
I've lost my way and slipped countless times.
Yet I have come to realize the truth,
I have friends who really care and want to help me.

Wether they ever realize this or not,
They are each important to me and help me survive.
They've made me see I'm not as horrible as I think,
They boost my confidence and help me stand up.

I really wish that I could help them more,
Unfortunately all I can ever do is thank them.
I've changed alot and continue swirling in confussion,
Yet I know as long as their there, I'll make it.

One day somehow I hope I'm able to repay them,
They make me realize I'm not that bad of a person.
These constant changes I never anticipated,
I can't promise I won't slip but I'm ready for all changes.

"I was taught that no one helps anyone for nothing,
For this fear I've held myself back from everyone." I can totally relate to those lines. Great job with this poem. You have great friends.

...why do you think like me?

A commentary on growing up. Trying to figure out what you've been taught, and how that affects the way you view the world, and what of it is even right. Stumbling and falling, picking yourself back up, but in the end you have the confidence to keep going, and I'm happy for you.

Thank you for writing something so inspiring.
