Blown by the Wind

Missing image
This world holds someone I love
Blown by the wind
This world holds someone I love
Blown by the Wind
So gently blow across the plain
And turn the stone to grind the grain
This world holds someone I love
Who works a grinding stone

Upon a rolling hilltop
Blown by the wind
Upon a rolling hilltop
Blown by the Wind
So gently blow across the plain
And turn the stone to grind the grain
Upon a rolling hilltop
A windmill stands alone

Love grinds the wheat and barley
Blown by the wind
Love grinds the wheat and barley
Blown by the Wind
So gently blow across the plain
And turn the stone to grind the grain
Love grinds the wheat and barley
Until the day is done

The moon will rise at twilight
Blown by the wind
The moon will rise at twilight
Blown by the Wind
So gently blow across the plain
And turn the stone to grind the grain
The moon will rise at twilight
And two will sing as one

The grinding stone is broken
Blown by the wind
The grinding stone is broken
Blown by the Wind
So gently blow across the plain
And turn the stone to grind the grain
The grinding stone is broken
So, tears fall from the moon

This world holds someone I love
Blown by the wind
This world holds someone I love
Blown by the Wind
So gently blow across the plain
And turn the stone to grind the grain
This world holds someone I love
Yet, silence is the tune

Author notes

Adapted from "Il est quelqu'un sur terre". As arranged by Benjamin Britten, for my money it is the most beautiful song ever written. It cannot be translated and still fit the music. So, I have stolen the image and written a new poem loosely based upon the original French folk song.

This is lovely, the smoothness of the flow and the image is beautiful and complementary. The repeating lines added an additional prospective.

    Love,

That is a beautiful song, the repetitions are so gentle and sad. Separation and loss are timeless subjects, and though windmills are rarely used anymore, it is an eternal image of work for life. Beaut, best of luck.
