good write! The picture adds to the haiku (maybe you should put at the end and have th reader scroll down to it so it won't give it away too soon??) I really liked the second line the most. Nicely put. Thanks for entering!!!

Thank you!
I'm so glad that you enjoyed this. I learn every time I write these haiku. I knew a little bit about praying mantises before, but I didn't know about how they literally paralyze their prey when they bite them on the back of the neck. It helped me to visualize this haiku. I love how the one in this photo almost looks like a leaf. They attack their prey before they even see it coming. I love how you interpreted this poem, putting so much more meaning to it then I had even thought of when I was writing it.

I haven't gotten around to looking up that website you gave me, but I will. I'm juggling my kids and school right now. I've got an online computer class, online accounting, and a paralegal class. I've also got to volunteer some hours this quarter for my paralegal class in Ethics. I'm ready to fall asleep, thinking about it.

Me and Thomasine found a huge praying mantis on holiday in Greece last year (i rescued it from the swimming pool haha) and it was so amazing, we've got some cool pictures of it too. Did you know the female bites the males head off when they mate? Sounds like a pretty bad deal to me!!
Great poem, you've captured the essence of a ruthless yet beautiful killer wonderfully. Well done, take care and good luck! x

Thank you so much.
I'm so glad I'm not a praying mantis. I don't think I'd appreciate having my head bitten off. I wonder if there is relationship counseling for the praying mantis. I'm so glad that you enjoyed this haiku. Your mention of Greece brings back memories. When I was in the U.S. Navy, I got to visit Athens. It's so beautiful there. I'll bet those photos you have of the praying mantis in the pool are priceless.

Hahaha! That's gold that is, counselling for praying mantis!!!
Ahh I have not been to Athens, though this October I am going back to Greece with Thomasine and her family
Take care x

She looks pretty upset
at whoever took that picture.
Another masterfully written haiku, Dear Poet.
You take inspiration from God's creation
and touch on it with something inspiring of your own.
Well done!

Thanks, Chaos.
I would hate to be the little butterfly that took this picture, then.

I can just see it now. The praying mantis lunges in blazing attack, spiny legs sinking deep into gossamer wings, just before gnashing and thrashing on the little butterfly's neck.
A praying mantis then, of course, paralyzes the frantic butterfly. At that point, it's an all-she-can-eat buffet.

Thank you so much.
A praying mantis is a feisty little green guy. They strike their pray with blazing speed, biting the back of their necks, paralyzing them. They'll go after mice, butterflies, and even after their lovers. I'd say they might have relationship issues.
