Once upon a broken dream,
I fell in love with you.
I didn't see the here and now,
But what in the future you'd do.
I fell in love with your potential,
Everything I knew you could be...
I had hoped that I could share it,
Guiding you willingly.
Yet I looked too far ahead, it seems,
For by the time I had returned,
You had started along a crooked path,
And my loving care you spurned.
It's sad, 'cause when I see you now,
Something inside of me dies.
You weren't meant to be like this,
Covering up with all of those lies.
You're no longer that incredible soul;
Fun, moral, loving and sane-
You took a bite of forbidden fruit,
And like Adam, I share your pain.
I can't presume to change you,
As your fate's not up to me,
Yet I warn you, nay, beseech you,
As I'm here on bended knee:
Save yourself from what you've become,
I pray it isn't too late,
To repair those bridges of trust and love,
There's no time to sit and wait.
I fell in love with your potential,
And if the odds are not too high,
I'll hope you'll be like a rainbow-
Unveiled as the whole world cries.

Once again, Drew, you amaze me. This is very well written and really conveys a sense of disapointment and even treason.

Once upon a broken dream,
I fell in love with you.
I love this in a way. I think its not cliche. I love the cretivity. -
Wow. Beautifully written and I can really relate. Rhyme scheme is also very nice, hardly noticeable but adds to the flow. Good luck in the contest.
