The Race

Things keep changing.
Time isn't stopping.
Everything is running.
No time left to adjust.

You're trying to keep up,
But still, behind you stay.
You're not the top
As you once were.

You fight. You're close to the top again.
But there is still a lot to go.
You fight to keep your place.
You fight not to fall.

But obstacles are thrown in,
Yet the race keeps going.
You lose your place.
You fall behind.

The world keeps running.
You're trying to keep up,
To get your place back.
But your time to shine has ended.
You lost the race. You're the last once again.

Author notes

I wrote the poem in English class. It's about how I managed to finally get into Honors English 2, and I'm not the top as I was in normal English1 last year as I do not know many things.

Please tell me what you think

This piece reminds me of the phrase "Dog eat dog". The "every man for himself" mentality. Very good poem. As human beings, I think this is something everyone could relate to in some way.

I think it's interesting how you explain what it's about, but it could really apply to anything. Life in general, or competition for any sort of thing. It's rather sad and beautiful...Hope you feel better.
