mountains
threaded with road,
spiraling strings of brick,
the god’s quipo count out neglect
among sheltered silence of their temples,
exhale of lightening from heaven
brightens vacant altars,
where prayers rose to
mountains
divine
huacas sigh
between blest boulders left
desolate on lost battlefields,
as forgotten deities murmur low
in winds that carry their voices
up sacred steps worn down
with spirit’s feet
divine
sun god
blazing through clouds
that shroud his mystery,
hidden from their conquering grief
as ancient stones encase Incan heartbeat
between shadows of memories,
as eyes rise towards sky,
he still watches,
sun god
Author notes
triple rictameter
I used the definition of quipos as counting devices, although new research suggests they may be words and messages instead.
