stones on the mountain
silent spectres bathe in rain
we taste their wisdom
Author notes
Long notes here... Japan was one of the most amazing places I've ever been, and Kiyomizu-dera was definitely a highlight. Taking the path from the temple down to where you can actually drink the water, I noticed lots of little graves on the hillside, sort of tucked behind trees and bushes - but still there. It was a very spiritual experience for me, so... that's sort of what I'm trying to bring about in the poem.
...After all that, not really sure if it's meaningful enough for any collection as you pretty much have to have been there to understand it, but I was mostly just (very) pleased to see a contest about Kiyomizu.
For the record, the water was excellent.

Lovely haiku, and your author's notes are really great to read. I think it wonderful you actually have gotten to visit this famous site, and thank you so much for your haiku.

Hi, thank you; I appreciate your notes as I have also been lucky enough to have visited Kiyomizu in my lifetime -- it's one of four of the 21 finalists for the World Wonders that I can say that about, so this is an especially interesting challenge for me.
Given your notes, I would suggest you simply write a poem about Kiyomizu which could in some way be inspired by your author notes. Thank you; I will look forward to hearing from you.
