Before my eyes, a travesty;
they look, but sometimes see.
Functional things, a mystery,
that isn't clear to me.
Within my heart, a fallacy;
I know it when it hits,
inflamed, it grows to jealousy
and brings me down in fits.
Upon my mind, a mystery;
I think therefore I fail.
It all repeats through history
temptations do assail.
Content to know that I can go
to places I should not,
I do not while I can forgo
the pain I've not forgot.
I can see the bending tree,
its branches in the wind;
the strongest trunk can bend, you see,
if the root ball is well pinned.
Tempted is not failing,
and failing is not loss,
so long as thought prevailing
finds the gold mixed in the dross.
Tempted is an inward thing,
is inward lost to lust?
Of all these things the angels sing
when love delivers trust.
Delivered from the second best,
the rest can then be found;
Temptation is the solemn test
that shows us where we're bound.

Excellent portrayal of temptation, it flowed with ease and imagery in every line, I especially liked the last two.

Fantastic rhythm and rhyme. You nailed it!!! I loved the way you could sing your way through this piece, even though it meant I had to read it more than once to actually read the message you gave the reader. Good luck in the contest.
