Ebony tresses whipping wildly about,
The north wind greets me with a caress
Carrying upon his inconspicuous coattails
Leaves loosed from their matron trees
And hushed lullabies of distant friends;
Daylight's glowing lantern now surrenders
To slumber as crimson curtains fade away,
A carpet of pure sapphire left in their wake
I venture into this world transformed anew,
Hailed by the common people watching above
From their faraway homes now untouchable;
Breezes sing praises through hanging chimes
When my mother begins her nightly ascent
In her brilliance, I too shine like a jewel,
Bathed by resplendent, ethereal silver light
For a fleeting moment, we are twin entities;
One upon the earth, another roaming heaven
She smiles as her rays bring forth peace,
Dispelling chaotic moans of nomadic strays
To be shrouded by quiet comfort instead
While she rules the skies with gentle hands,
My spirit dances along uncharted paths
As light footsteps call wood nymphs out to play;
Laughter fills the still midnight atmosphere,
Rousing shadow brethren from their abodes
They come trailed by friendly little fireflies
Glowing gold in sincere, affectionate ardor;
Wreaths of laurel and lotus blossoms crown me
Chief deity of this unknown realm of the dark
This is my world, for which I was once born
But could never exchange for earthly treasures;
After dusk falls and before daylight returns,
Watching over this land is my birthright
As the moon's daughter, goddess of the night.
Author notes
I connect very well with the moon--and I am a well-known night owl. I'd love to rule the night for real!

Because I'm pagan, this deeply appeals to me. Hearing words light "daughter of the moon" and "goddess" and all that good stuff simply resonates with me on a personal level. Loved this, and thank you for entering my contest.

Heavenly is a moonlit night!!!!!
Raven, Heavenly is a moonlit night and the daughter who controls it. Your words were the pure essence of moonlight glowing softly and still so powerful as they shined upon my eyes. Imagery abounded this luminescent work with your verbiage so elegant and profound. I love the background you chose as well. I am always in awe of your writing, your talent for the written word amazes me to no end. I could never do a piece of free verse this stunning. I was captured from the title right to the very last word and left breathless by that overtook my senses. Kudos for you my dear sweet friend, keep ruling the night. Love and God bless, Joyce

Gorgeous~
This wowed me as you gave us an exhaustive plate of delicious nature. The moon is one of my favs as well, its suspended presence dawning a night sky. I see the Lord in it more intimately than some of the Wonders ...don't know why. It's nearly like it's just MINE for the asking
I'll be standing on it one day!
My only suggestion would be to divide the body into at least 3 parts so that it can BREATHE and the readers can INHALE the aromatics you intended to offer us. Just my thoughts on it.
These two lines pull me in. .ahhhhhhhhh!
Carrying upon his inconspicuous coattails
Leaves loosed from their matron trees
I love this bold award that you give yourself.
Watching over this land is my birthright <--- there's where your recognition shows up..so heartfully.

ah the moon, i think of ripples of reflection here with the title, her daughter on the surface. but then you lead me to where you want with your powerful imagery. such a rich and sensual penning here, very beautiful indeed
spill ink and twist me into the crazy shape of love...

I love your work. I really need to get over and read more of it. Everytime I read a piece of yours I am left almost speachless. The way you have woven the words of this piece is wonderful. It has a rhythm that just naturally comes out as I read this. The imagery is perfect!
I have a love for the moon. Luna has always been my muse, ever since I was a little girl. When I saw this piece I had to read it. Lovely write!

Wow. The imagery itself was stunning. Every scene was depicted vividly, like an explosion of colors dancing a little jig across the computer screen. So yeah, I loved this poem!

Night Eye
If you do not rule the night, you must rule diction. Holy moly, this was an incredible piece of imagery. So many people have commented that I'm sure you've gotten the idea....I'll just say I agree with them.
I loved the format, and I usually don't. You were able to keep my attention throughout the whole of it.
Love,

Stars shine above with the moon vailing us with you love. Oh will say i'm like you, and i'm connected to the night. Though nothing is wrong with day.
yet again a beauitful write.

Oh my dear you did it again!!!! When ever I read your work I think two things - First of all I think of what an accomplished poetess you are and how beautiful your soulful words are, than I think to my self - Its incredible that some ones thought process can be so close to mine - Our writing styles are so similar some times it scares me - None the less this is a magical write transporting me to dance upon the moon ::AuroraMoon does a little jig:: You really are so very talented that you amaze me with each write I read!!
Sending you many
and lots of love!

Simply beautiful. This has some of the very best vocabulary and imagery I have evert read, quite breath taking. This is very creative, especially in the aspect that you choose to describe things.
Daylight's glowing lantern now surrenders
To slumber as crimson curtains fade away,
A carpet of pure sapphire left in their wake
I love this line. Crimson curtains, a carpet of pure saphire, simply wonderful descriptions that make everything seem beautiful and shimmering. I got the view of a carpet like the red one they roll out for celebritties, only made of sapphire and stretching across a place where the sun is just rising and making it glimmer brightly. Such a beautiful image ^_^. You really worked wonders in creating this poem, you are a very talented writer. ^-^

I have always loved the nighttime and the wonders of the sky at night. You have made it even more captivating with all the lovely metaphors. This felt light and airy and very refreshing to read. Thanks for sharing and for your comments on THEN IT HAPPENED. I always look forward to them with delight. Irene

HA! I know what you mean! I've always been trying to write a poem to express my love and devotion to the moon and the night, but I can't because I really don't know why I am connected to them so much. Anyhow, I really love this poem. It's so beautiful and rare........like you!
Lots Of Love!

You captured the romance and the mystery of the night just perfectly { to be one with it is something so many people never experience , as to them the night holds fright and evil } Yet to others , it is when they really come to life and yes...there is something called moonchildren
I have some works published under the name " DivadeLuna " not on this site , as a matter of fact ..not on the net at all . It is for a group with a few mwmbers who get together now and then and we have discussions and read poetry { I keep it completely separate from this venture here }

very very nice, especially the ending. i love the night too, not really because of the moon or the starts, just because of how it makes me feel. haha, i tell people i am a vampire. it's good. anyways... i like the rhythm of this piece very much. flows so nicely. also, the personification is interesting... but anywho... very nice write.
