Author notes

Newspeak : propagandistic language marked by euphemism, circumlocution, and the inversion of customary meanings. A language "designed to diminish the range of thought," in the novel 1984 by George Orwell.

Doublethink: To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again: and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself. That was the ultimate subtlety: consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed. Even to understand the word 'doublethink' involved the use of doublethink.(George Orwell,1984).

- Half the world — nearly three billion people — live on less than two dollars a day.

-The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the poorest 48 nations (i.e. a quarter of the world’s countries) is less than the wealth of the world’s three richest people combined.

-Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.

-Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen.

-1 billion children live in poverty (1 in 2 children in the world). 640 million live without adequate shelter, 400 million have no access to safe water, 270 million have no access to health services. 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5 (or roughly 29,000 children per day

    Wow!

This has so many layers, so many angles, so many nuances. So many brutal truths, so many reasons to feel dissilusioned, so many reasons to be pissed off and angry, so many reasons to be part of a solution instead of part of the apathty mind-set problem, so many reasons to revolt, so many reasons to reach out in whatever means fits (like writing poetry). Time to stand up and be counted.

The world needs to read and hear more of this. Bravo, you rock woman!!

    Triplethink....Quadruplethink?....?

George Orwell got it bang on..its happening as your children are fattented up for "pigsTM" and learning to watch "Big Brother" Bet they dont teach Animal Farm anymore in schools..

    But

dont you understand that this has already moved on?

its not about any government caring..Gordon Brown was at Bildeberg..Clinton..Blair..Queen Beatrix..Rockefeller..British royal family..add any number

Bildeberg..Kolvenbach..the new american union (usa, mexico, canada,)

if you want to make a difference

    KNOW THY ENEMY

and as Mr Weller said so poignantly..

    going underground?

the internet will not exist as we know it in 5 years

    fight that

There couldn't possibly be subversive organisations at work? A secretive shadow (world) government at the helm controlling the plebs?

I suppose if we had access to ALL the information, we might not adapt quite as easily to the 'system's version of reality, and that's too dangerous.

      Bildeberg? Illuminati breeding ground?

Maybe Orwell knew a little more than he let on.

Interesting shit though. Your average Brit doesn't give a fuck though unfortunately. Too busy lying comatose in front of the telly watching non other than...

      Big Brother.

poo poo de doo me beetch

    I think..

that one must be careful if you are prepared to take on the principle of the NWO...many will die fighting (not the Bin Ladens, etc etc) but the "Untermensch" have the intelligence to go underground..especially in this day and age when plans are are alread afoot to undermine "internet 2" and create the undernet..

    Firstly..

"Know thine enemy" (while we still got the chance)

    Secondly...

"Identify it's strategies" (From Nero burning Rome, Hitler burning the Reichstag, Operation Northwood, 9,11 etc)

    Thirdly..

"Go underground and shut up and formulate a decent plan that might ensure the survival of the "Fittest" (intellectually)..This is World War Three..1984 if you prefer..

And connect with those who are willing to fight disinformation

(oh and get yer tits out!)

And you're currently 'underground' I presume, formulating your 'decent' plan? .

"But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother"...

      Eric Arthur Blair aka ORWELL.

Alternatively, fuck it all, buy that cottage in Tuscany.

    Excellent Poem

I loved the poem,I felt it had similar comparisons to Billy Joels song, We Did'nt Light The Fire, and I loved that too. Take care,Moon Shadow.

This is my last read of the night...probably will not sleep now...this is the most excellent societal poem I have read in a long time. I am speechless. I know all this, and yet, the way you lay it out here..makes one really disgusted in the world we live in and will start in my home to change it

One must learn to deal with tragedies either by ignoring them or acknowledging them AND doing something about them... This doesnt seem to be productive in the "doing something" category. I personally did not feel moved by it, there is too much. I suggest pick ONE topic then maybe make another poem for another. Go from one persons perspective then show both. That is what I would do, but then again I am not you!

"One must learn to deal with tragedies either by ignoring them or acknowledging them AND doing something about them..."

Precisely my point Crimset . It is, in part, an attack on those who do ignore, those with a sinister interest in vacuous celebrities like Paris Hilton, what they wear, who they fuck etc. Those sad empty individuals trying to buy aesthetic beauty from the latest issue of Vogue magazine, who don't THINK about what's going on in the world, let alone take any action. Those who don't educate themselves because it imposes on their happy hours shopping at the "mall". You should know the type I refer to. I am not sure poetry is always meant to "do something". Sometimes, it just is. If it makes one person put down a gossip mag and pick up something educational, I'll be a happy bunny. Cheers for stopping by and taking the time to comment though, much appreciated :-)

Bruce, thanks for the comment. Much appreciated. Not sure how we survive without anger (as long as it's not destructive). Hope all is well in your world X

There's no more secure a prison than the one we don't know we are in. The truth might set us free, but it will probably piss us off first. Drunk on anger over drunk on power. I can't go there. But I'll not fail to love everyone I come into contact with, to the best of my limited ability. The spirit of love flows through me like a river. As I release love, I heal. As I release love. Someone else heals. If I fail to be loving, it will kill me. The water will stagnate and I will begin to reek of poison. Love moves my heart like a mountain. Guide my steps when my pain blinds me to faith, so I can continue. Mother Theresa was asked what someone can do FOR HER. She said it would make her happy if he would find someone that feels alone, to look that person in the eyes, and persuade that person that they are NOT alone. Amen.

Personally, I don't really watch much new's or read the papers. There is nothing but shit in them anyways.

You have done you're home work, haven't you? It's a sad sorry affair we all live in today.

As for the poem, we live by the rules these fuck-wits make up... yet fail to follow half of them themselves... Power is just another way to say I own your arse, so do as I say, not as I do.

Sonia, it is way to feckin early to be having to bloody think, and I think I am still drunk from flippin last night. Brilliant poem tho mate, send that into the Sun, see if they print it lmao
