While telling a scary story over campfire, Millie knew from the first time she’d began spinning this tale, that others in the group were beginning to clutch at the other’s arm as if it were a means to protect—yet, despite all of this, what she failed to mentioned was that this ‘so-called’ tale was indeed actually true.
It all started when Mrs. Thornton visited her home one afternoon depicting to her mother of Saturday’s meeting on the outskirts of town even though nothing seemed odd, it was an unrecognizable object the lady held to her chest that really caught Millie’s attention. After greeting everyone afterwards, Mrs. Thornton finally sat down at the breakfast table dishing out the local gossip of what had transpired between the bank’s manager and his lovely wife, Saranne. Strange, really that not many knew about her that well other than what was told in the town’s newspaper as well as her donating money for certain events and/or needs of the townsfolk whom needed that friend when family refused to visit.
“Anyway,” Millie explained to the group, “You see Mrs. Thornton and the other ladies always done their meetings in the nearby Canfield Forest because some people believed that they were ‘up to no good’ as my grandpa would call it but I- I knew better because mom would leave wearing all white attire but returned in the predawn hours covered in blood and dirt.”
“So what you are saying is that your mother and few of the ladies in town would leave dressed like that and return…?” one of the girls asked.
Nodding, Millie kept on with the story daring not to leave out any details. “You see unlike any other normal town, where I’m from, the town consists of more women than men—not exactly neither typical nor ordinary.”
As she kept going, a rustling sound was beginning to emanate from somewhere not far, leaving half the girls wanting to scream and a few of the guys readying themselves for a fight (or just to toss the girls in front then run away); seconds passed when an urgency to go to the bathroom, left Millie needing to go. As she was looking for some type of cover to urinate, she began feeling as though she had to do what her mother and the ladies done: find a field and dig looking for something important.
Reluctant to turn back, one of the guys named Jarrod, walked in the same path direction she did to search for her. “Millie! You okay?” he shouted. “Yeah J I’m fine just finishing up here”, Millie replied. An hour later, after finishing up the story, everyone had decided to turn in for the night then leave in the morning since college vacation would be ending soon –that, and finals were coming up as well. As she slept, a dream she’s had for the past two or so years beckoned her to go to the field in white…
But why?
Pulling out something from her bag, Millie noticed a strange gem folded in with her white shirt, grabbed it and a shovel, then proceeded to sneak away from camp to find out what she needed to do. Meantime, Jarrod heard that same rustling sound again therefore decided that he needed to go; up against a bush, he’d spotted Millie with something in her hands walking towards a clearing in the woods not far from camp. Following her, he soon took note that she was digging- as if Millie was searching for something but when she stopped, turned and saw Jarrod standing there, something unnerving told him that he better leave. No sooner than being seen, she quickly acknowledged that he must be killed yet this was just simply strange to her nonetheless as Millie ran after Jarrod.
Now that he’s lying in front her motionless, another unfathomable thought entered her mind as to what she believed the women of Oak Creek were doing even if she, herself did not understand, a part of her did. Pulling his still unconscious body to the dug out location, Millie quickly grabbed the gem, spoke something, placed it onto his body, then kept on talking in an unfamiliar language; slowly waking up, pain sliced through without hesitation wondering what in the world was happening. Then looking down, he saw it…and Millie: both were devouring something - something that left stains all over her t-shirt...
(The rest, you'll only have to guess what happens)

Thanks for your entry
unfortunately the story is way out of the line limit, but I will allow your entry to remain in the contest for the background. I really like the bats on the moon, the border is really done well. I also like the while line that seperates the border from the background. Over all great Halloween border.
Happy Halloween!
