undercurrent

Bus lights blind no one

and the rain falls, heavy
      the rain falls fast.

Someone is coming back
from Canterbury.

The sky closes in
on all of us,

and the bench drowns
in street-water,

Empty.

Author notes

If you look closely at the picture, there is a street sign that says 'Canterbury.'

nicely suggestive title for the poem that follows, especially uncapitalized. Something ... someone ... an undercurrent of importance captures in a few lines and a simple image. Well done.
