We never knew how it got so bad:
The daily grind and the journey home
to wells of stagnant sadness.
I could look over my shoulder
and see you standing there too
just as depressed as the next guy
and the guy after that.
We crawl, united, on hands and knees
towards a better mirage:
Desperately trying to out-run the sound
of depression singing ballads in our heads.
Maybe we've all forgotten how to be happy.
Maybe we're all just lonely.
Author notes
About people from the US- where people have their depression in common. It's not spoken about enough so each goes through it alone, uniting them in solitude in a weird way. Idk.

i think it is one of your rare poems where you haven't tried to be too overtly concrete or clever with words. but the simplicity works to elucidate the complexity of the situation you present, in a bit humorous way. an excellent poem of ideas.
