Boston Light

Sunrise at Brewster Isle, ignites my soul
glistening off the baying tides stately;
As the fog cannon, stands ready to sound.

Here upon this island, I could stroll
my thoughts linger to history lately,
for this is one of Bostons hidden gems.

To John Hancock, I give my praise unbound
for this light of graceful beauty cajoled;
while keeping the harbor safe innately...

Inspiring dreams laced romantic surround
the mariners go past with their sails hem,
to gaze upon the distant reach, to home.

Her decadence welcomes weary fishermen,
their hearts of joy, upon her sight--to roam...

    Do proofread carefully: " Boston's hidden gems ".
    This is a very historical building, indeed. And, the British destroyed the first one.

    As to her "decadence", I feel you are speaking not of moral depravity but rather of hoary ancientness. Even "decay" may have been a better choice.
    Your reference to Colonel Hancock gives the poem its historical authority.
    As to form, you have written a free verse sonnet of four tercets and a couplet.
    This has been, for this Aussie judge, an interesting poetic read.

    I like the images in your poem, and I can see you adore your city and its fine sites. This is a tricky form you have chosen, with difficult rhymes. I apologize for my poor reading, the couplet baffled me.

    What a delightful write! Very vivid and the skill is just phenomenal in the wording and form. Very professional, and still eloquent and captivating at the same time without the detriment of becoming sterile. I adore a good write on anything to do with the culture of the seacoast, especially the northeastern Atlantic, riddled with gorgeous, historic lighthouses- such a symbol of the culture of the sea, the rich history. This is a marvelous tribute to such majesty. Truly magnificent. I absolute love the last two lines, just stunning! “Her decadence welcomes weary fishermen,/their hearts of joy, upon her sight—to roam…” Fantastic!! Oh, I just love writes like this, so marvelous! Very, very well done!!!!!!
