Bar fights and late-nights
and loving and leaving
Those times at the camp fire
Tall stories we were weaving
A smidgen of it was the truth
tossed in with good pleasure
We even told of our bounties
for toughness, to measure
Knowing inside our hearts
how, we'd trade it all away
to be holding the love of
our life in our arms, one day
As time drew it's hard toll on us
our souls were as tough as leather
And although we enjoyed the camp
songs, this wouldn't be forever
So, we packed up our belongings
and we mounted up, no regrets
As we said our final farewells
We rode off, into the sunset...
...Happy trails to you, Pure Country

Almost Biographical
but not quite. The Cowboy Rides Away has been my theme ever since I first heard it. So I appreciate the direction you went with the poem.
Knowing inside our hearts
how, we'd trade it all away
to be holding the love of
our life in our arms, one day.
Having to always say goodbye, when you simply want to stay and want to make it work. But knowing leaving was best. Do we ever find a resting spot for our souls?
Your verses speak volumes to my heart. I appreciate the effort you invested in this piece of prose.
Good Luck in the Contest and All Other of Life's Adventures.
Respectfully,
PureCountry,
aka
Richard
