while seducing shadows
to sing a lullaby of abandoned hope,
glorify despondency.]
She slept in handcuffs,
culture stigmata of dowry promises
kept her ambitions chained,
but there was love,
and temptation to fall through
the epitaph of subfusc serfdom,
cradled infamous glory,
break the caste.
Honour was a blade
that split the catalyst of defiance.
Honour was the spike
that festooned her betrayal
upon family pride
and retribution was restitution.
Expunged deviant,
pupa within threshold of a dark door,
step over the line between prisons
and cradle vengeful silence.
[Shadows died in night,
their softening whispers chasing
light into its darkest dreams.]
