You Could Be My Daughter

I married my husband in 1984-
so you could be my daughter.
You look like a member of my family-
so you could be my daughter.
Apple green is my favorite color-
so you could be my daughter.
You are a Christian, as am I-
so you could be my daughter.
I speak what's on my mind, too-
so you could be my daughter.

I miscarried a baby girl eighteen years ago-
so you could be my daughter.

I would like that. Would you?

Author notes

I have a very small ap family (two sisters and a best friend). If you would rather, I could be your Aunt. I'm 52 years old, was indeed married in 1984 (August 18th) and I have a 16 year old son who loves Math and Science, but hates poetry. You really do look kind of like me. I am from the Northeast USA. My favorite types of poetry to write are Christian and humor. I also love to design backgrounds, and am very involved in GraphicOholics. I think you should be able to check me out more; my pen name is Freed by Mercy.

I do not and will not have an ap husband. I don't want a "pseudo marriage" to draw me away from my own.
I am happily married in my first, last and only marriage.

    Wow

We could almost be sisters! It's a beautiful poem, with simple words and, it sounds like, longing, too. I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I was born April 18th of 1984. That's amazing how much we have in common. I'm glad you're happy in your marriage! One day, I hope to be in those shoes myself.

    Good luck in the contest!
