At the house in VA I had a small collection of Buddhas that I kept in the dining room cabinet...Your haiku so reminded me of those full-bellied Buddhas.
Thank you so much for this entry to the contest!
Jo
P.S.: I'm thinking some of those Buddha-types may need a belly-rub along with an Alka-Seltzer and tummy tuck!!!

LOL, So that's the reason his tummy is so big! I'm impressed; you know that haiku does not have to be 5/7/5. An unrhymed Japanese poem recording the essence of a moment. Nature is combined with human nature. It usually consists of three lines of 5/7/5 (5 kana in the first line, 7 kana in the second line, and 5 kana in the third line) totaling seventeen kana. People tend to confuse kana or a single unit in the Japanese language with the English syllable. This means you do not have to write three lines of 5/7/5 (5 syllables in the first line, 7 syllables in the second line, and 5 syllables in the third line). You may do so, if you can do it well without fluff words (many can't). If you write 5/7/5, that does not make your poem more of a haiku than someone who does not write 5/7/5. So, well done! You have no "fluff" words.
Love,
Amera♥

I have been told that I have a Buddha tummy, but no one ever gets to rub my tummy because I never get finished eating.

This is really funny. I always thought that's what the little statue at First Wok looked like! This was really cute; good job!

Love the haiku--excellent choice including the Buddha. In three lines you brought up three images and the contrast is excellent! Good luck in the contest!
