I came across your photograph today
And I was hit was an incredible sense
Of deja vu, not just the common kind,
But the kind that makes you feel that you
Truly know this person,
The kind that compels you to believe
That you encountered them
In some other life, some other dimension.
I gazed upon
Your handsome, honest face
All I needed was there,
It expressed your humor, your kindness
Your good, golden heart
You were one well-loved
And loved greatly in return.
I read that your sister claimed you
Had four different smiles,
And the one you showed here
Was your devilish one,
Planning a good-natured prank.
I found you in the list
Of fallen soldiers, of valiant warriors
Those that did not survive
That ruthless battlefield.
I thought then that perhaps
If on that destined Halloween
That horrible bomb
Hadn't taken your soul
It might have one day
Met/completed my own
