An Adventure That I Will Never Forget

On a day that I can hardly remember
Sometime late in the month of November,
A shiny, blue, Chinese airplane departed
With me sitting in it, happy, full hearted.

“Would you like any soup?” she said in Chinese
I didn’t know what she meant, I still said “Yes please!”
I gobbled up my soup and to my delight,
It was nearly the end of our long, long flight.

When we got to the hotel, mom fell fast asleep
But I still laid there, counting out white sheep.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight and nine,
I thought having a sister would be mighty fine.

While I toured the great city, I wrung my hands
Imagine my sister, the first day she stands,
How proud I would be to have taught her to walk.
How proud I would be if I taught her to talk.

We entered the orphanage, and to my surprise,
We heard bathtubs running, and a baby’s cries.
The tall man spoke, why was he yelling at us?
Our translator said: “He says he welcomes us.”

We went into a tiny room, someone came up.
She handed us a baby, small as a pup.
Once given to us, she cried and we all smiled.
At that moment she was ours, our little child.

On the plane home, all she did was sit and sleep,
From her we never even heard a small peep!
Well, what kind of baby is this? I sighed.
That was before the little thing cried!

WAA! WAA! Her loud voice filled the entire plane.
For a little baby, her voice was a pain!
All of the passengers looked over at us,
They all just sat there, watching our baby fuss.

Oh, what did she want a brand new clean diaper?
Boy, she was sure acting extremely hyper!
She didn’t gobble up her airplane dinner,
Was my little sister growing much thinner?

Once we finally were home, all was quite well,
Our little house held such a glorious smell!
The smell of wonderful home-made breakfast, yay!
And oh, that day was such an excellent day.

Of the many good times, and of the bad times,
Days on end of fairy tales, and nursery rhymes,
Nothing ever has beaten it yet,
It’s an adventure, I will never forget.
