The Haunting ... Sixth and final in the Lolita series

Missing image

Stolen thoughts in memory clung
of him she did adore
Lolita, sad and lonely, prayed
for his embrace once more

In lonely death he would not leave
but stayed with her in grief
and as the days and months went by,
her nights brought no relief

Until time could no longer hold
the sadness in her heart,
she passed away at end of day
no more her tears to start

‘Tis said by those who say they’ve seen
at a table out of sight
two shadowed figures rise to dance
… “Lolita’s here tonight!”

What a pretty piece of poetry. I loved the rhythm and rhyme and the exit line was a perfect tribute to her memory. Excellent work my friend. Thanks for sharing this with me.

    Sincerely,
    Leo Long

Thank you. Leo. Hugh Wyles helped with the rhyming of this poem. I had originally written it in non-rhyming freeverse but it just didn't seem right. I'm pleased with the results and glad you like it

I hadn't added to the series in a long time so figured it was time to lay poor Lolita to rest.

    Dear Dee,

It always gives me pleasure, dear,
to try and help a friend,
    though I confess I shed a tear
    to read Lolita's end.

It's sad her life on earth should cease,
for it was all too brief.
Let's hope that Death has brought release
from all her tears and grief.

Although you have brought your Lolita series to a fitting close, albeit a rather sad one, it is comforting to know that she is united in the afterlife with her man and that their shades are dancing together. I'm glad you liked the picture.

This is a lovely poem, Dee, in which I was honoured to make a minimal contribution. Thankyou for asking me.

Love and hugs, as always, XXX Hugh.
