First Steps (Lessons Learned)

First steps are very hard for me.
It’s not my fault,
these things are rarely explained properly.
How is a person expected to know?

I have learned a lot
and I am a very helpful person.

Thus, I have compiled this list,
A cheat sheet, if you will,
of important first steps
for those needing a little extra help:

1

When you’re addicted to something,
the first step is ADMITTING YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.

2

The first step on the stairs will trip you up
if you don’t WATCH WHERE YOU’RE GOING.
You may end up taking a fall.

3

The first step in the pool, the water is cold as ice,
You have to JUMP IN ALL AT ONCE.
Don’t ease in by inches – that way is torture.

4

The first step in any treasure hunt is
Is FINDING A MAP, and that map has to have an X on it.
No map, no X, no treasure.

5

The first step in meeting somebody is saying hello.
Or, stepping on their foot.
Or, giving them a flower.
BE CREATIVE.

6

The first step in starting conversation
Is OPENING YOUR MOUTH
to let some words out.

7

The first step in ensuring the Lions have a winning season is….
Well let me know if anyone figures that out.

8

The first step on the moon
was ONE GIANT LEAP for mankind.
Mankind is very good at leaping
(but is directionally challenged).

9

The first step in relieving writer’s block
is ADMITTING YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.
Then you can become properly morose,
which really gets the creative juices flowing.

10

The first step in becoming a truly great writer
is learning when to STOP.

Your 10th step here is the most remarkable to me: "The first step in becoming a truly great writer
is learning when to STOP"...can't tell you how many ideas could be served by taking this step to heart (not just when it comes to writing). And your Author Notes really punctuate your closing stanza(as if it's saying, there's nothing else to be said on the subject - "." hahahaha).

    Perfect!!!!

This was the truest thing I have ever read!!! A: how ARE we supposed to automatically know these things B: Don't get in the pool inch by inch, then you just waste 20 minutes and your like me, and C: sometimes you do have to make the first move in order to meet someone ( I just wouldn't suggest stepping on their foot, especially in the shoes I'm wearing now. Maybe you can send them a picture of a deer or clown and hope they scream and need to be held and comforted...)
